Joshua remembered eight years after disappearance
A program to remember the eighth anniversary of the disappearance of Maple Lake college student Joshua Guimond was conducted on Saturday evening at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Maple Lake.
Joshua, the son of Brian Guimond and Lisa Cheney of Maple Lake, vanished in the early morning hours of Nov. 10, 2002, after he left a gathering of friends on the campus of St. John’s University.
Family and friends gathered at Holy Cross on Saturday for a service conducted by pastors Steven King and Peter Martinson. Rev. Martinson noted that he came to Maple Lake several years after Joshua’s disappearance, but came to know him through the memories shared by others.
“Words are inadequate in the face of an event so painful, so frustrating and so open ended,” Martinson told the gathering, asking where God can be found in tragedies like this.
“The promise of God strengthens our faith and helps us keep going,” Martinson said.
